there's this woman in my circle of friends, and her name is doreen. i haven't known her long enough to get super-close to her or anything, but we've gone on some group gambling-lady adventures together, and she's a ton of fun.
she's 38 years old, and i remember the the first time i went to her house, i felt envious. she has a beautiful home, a lovely family, a successful business--just one of those people who really seems to have her shit together, y'know?
so anyway, not too long ago, she discovered a lump in her breast. it was small, so she wasn't too worried. she figured she had caught it early. she was wrong.
the prognosis: stage IV terminal cancer.
doreen's new full-time job is fighting for her life.
because she's such a bold and brassy gal, doreen has thumbed her nose at this prognosis, and is flat-out refusing to leave this earth. we, her family and friends, have resolved to do whatever we can to keep her here with us as well.
so that's why i'm doing the weekend to end breast cancer walk. our team, "doreen's miracle," is walking 60 kilometres (that's nearly 40 miles for our american friends) to raise money for breast cancer awareness, treatment, research, and eventually, a cure.
each of the walkers needs to do some serious fundraising. doreen's dad has set the bar almost insanely high, raising nearly 15 grand on his own, but if i can meet my target of $2000, that would be a good start.
so yeah, this is the part where i ask you for money. at first, i wasn't going to put this on here, because soliciting donations through my diary kinda skeeved me out. but i figure if people can go on the interweb and ask strangers to help them pay off their credit cards because they were foolish and irresponsible, then it can't hurt for me to ask too.
so yeah, if you can manage to throw in a few bucks for this most worthy of causes, i'd be so fucking grateful. thanks for reading all this.
if you want to make a donation or just read some more info, you can go to my personal page for the walk. and please pass this along to anyone that you think might be interested in donating or walking.
thanks again.
Yours
very truly,

Ms.
Fancy Lady
